USATF Border Association Parent Information

Good Evening Parents of USATF Youth Athletes,

The USATF Border Association would like to welcome all the new and returning Youth Athletes to the 2014 Track & Field season. The USATF Border Association would like every parent to be advised of the following:

The USATF Youth Club: Criminal Background Check Program has been implemented for all coaches and volunteers of youth clubs.Background Checks have been implemented by USATF to:

 1. Promote a safe, nurturing, and supportive athletic environment in which youth athletes can pursue their athletic goals;

2. Provide an environment where parents can feel good about allowing their child to participate in the sport of track and field.

3. Maintain the sport of track and field as a hostile environment for those who would seek to harm youth athletes. The background check is now a component of the USATF Club Membership approval and must be completed for all coaches in accordance with the Club Membership process.

Please refer to the attached link for additional information.

The Criminal Background Check Program - Volunteers in Good Standing page on the USATF websiteallows you to find a list of volunteers who have successfully passed a background check during the current membership year, are current USATF members, and are eligible to coach and volunteer at club practices and activities. These individuals are considered to be in "good standing" and are covered by USATF's liability insurance at registered club practices.

Additionally, USATF's liability insurance provides coverage at practice locations and sanctioned USATF event locations.  If athletes are practicing outside of the listed practice location (i.e road runs, city parks, etc.) during a club practice, the USATF liability insurance will not cover any sustained injuries.

The USATF Border Association would like to that you for your continued support, and we look forward to a very safe and exciting 2014 track & field season.

Sincerely,

Maria Johnson
USATF Border Association
Secretary/Membership Chair
